Every second month, during the even numbered months, we invite the general public to our meeting for a night of entertainment. Many of our guests are friends who return every open night to see us perform miracles. Some are new to WASM as spectators and have no idea what to expect. No matter what brings them to us, it is vital for us to put on a professionally developed routine. In the past, we have done just that and with each passing open night we improve as individuals and as a club. For that, I thank you as your club producer. What a wonderful group of magicians we are these days!
I ask you to invite all of your friends, family and acquaintances to this upcoming meeting. Why? Because the larger the audience, the better the response to our magic is. As magicians, we should also sort of throttle back a little and allow ourselves to be mystified by the performer on stage who is doing his or her best to entertain. It's too easy for us to admire a great move or sleight and forget to applaud when appropriate. Not so with our guests. The lay audiences are quick to take a cue and clap when they see a miracle. The more of them present, the better the overall presentation is. They are part of the presentation.
I always look forward to open nights. This month, see me before the meeting to set up your performance time. It will also pay you dividends to consider using a microphone. See Norm Patterson for instructions and setup before you perform. He'll fix you up with a wonderful wireless microphone that will help you project into our small audience and give you a taste of using a wireless for when you perform in a larger group. This is a great opportunity for you to try out before you invest hundreds of dollars in your own wireless system.
See you there!
