July 19, 2000 Meeting

August 22 is the date for our annual Magician of the Year Competition. It seems like just yesterday we hosted our 2006 competition at the Odin Tavern. This year, due to the success of the tavern's promotions, which include our performances there, the Wednesday evening crowd has just grown too large for us to use the venue on that night. So, we were forced by circumstance to change the date to Tuesday, 22 August at 8:00pm (performance time).

Those wishing to compete in this annual event should inform me either during this July meeting, by e-mail to ray@perthmagic.com or by telephone at 0402 417 046 so that I can schedule the performance times. Timeslots will be randomly filled by a drawing of competitor's names.

The competition rules are simple. Each performer will be limited to no more than 7 minutes which will be timed. Any performer going over that allowed time will be disqualified. Voting will be done by club members and by the general audience. A Magician of the Year award and a People's Choice Award will be presented based on the member votes and the general public
votes.

I will be there at 5:00pm to set up and those performing can come by any time after that to bring their gear backstage. Dinner service will commence at 6:00pm and will conclude around 7:30pm. A roast dinner or steak dinner special is being offered by the tavern along with the regular menu items.

Last year, we filled the tavern with friends, family and visitors. Some of the best performances of the year were presented and selecting a winner was a demanding challenge. The July meeting is a closed meeting. We have some scheduled business matters to discuss and vote upon so please plan to attend.
