News From the Producer

This has been a busy time for us with all sorts of magic activity. Lee Earle's visit was sensational and all the comments I've heard have been positive. His outgoing personality, stage presence and showmanship stood out almost as much as his knowledge of his subject matter. Lee is a consumate professional and deserves his top ranking in the profession of mind reading. As busy as he was here, he took time out to visit Dave Hannell at his home while he recovers from his surgery.

Our annual fund raiser show at the Roundhouse Tavern in Balcatta was a success, as always. Attendance was down a bit. We still had 50 people and some very keen staff participating in the show.

And what a show it was! Pierre opened the show and charmed our audience with his grace and style. Adam did his manipulation act which was a crowd pleaser. Michel Fouche presented some of the classics mixed with his own magic to wow the crowd. Christopher Bisset put on a dazzling mind reading display which had the audience questioning everything they witnessed. Jim Sleight, as always, captivated the audience and led them on a merry journey through a place full of surprises. Ola Nilsson once again lived up to his reputation as WA's premier magician!

The next big event is our annual Magician of the Year Award which will be held once again at the Odin Tavern on Tuesday, 22 August, 2006. Details will be in the next issue of the Western Wand. Like last year, dinner is available at the tavern before the show starts.

The Burswood event for September is not going to happen at that venue. I've left many messages for the people there who arrange such things to call me and schedule an appointment but they haven't yet returned my call. So, I have found another venue which should be arranged to the point where I can report it to you by the June meeting night.

The Annual Holiday Dinner this year will be held on 7 October, 2006. We need some numbers as to how many plan to attend so an appropriate venue can be selected. The problem of professional entertainers not being able to attend due to the Saturday night schedule of the dinner should be minimized by the fact that this is probably the least busy evening of the
entire calendar year. In the next Western Wand, you will find an attendance post card for each member to fill in and return giving us an estimate of how many will be there.

Lastly, I would like to remind you that this June meeting is an open meeting and your family and friends are always welcome to attend. In the last few months, I have been contacted by no fewer than 5 potential new members via my web site at http://www.perthmagic.com and two of them have already become new members. Since club membership has been declining in recent months, this is exciting news. Fresh faces mean a more entertaining meeting for all members. Who among us will ever forget "Elton Tom's" classic performance by a penguin on steroids? I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Don't forget to invite potential members to our
meetings. Visiting or potential member magicians may even be invited to any closed meeting except for our AGM in January.
